My Level of Wellness

This unit's blog is in regards to my physical, spiritual and psychological well being.  When it comes to my physical well being, I would give myself an 8.  I workout at least five times a week doing combined cardio and strength exercises; and I maintain a healthy weight for my height. A goal that I have for my physical health is to maintain a healthier diet.  I tend to eat well for a few days, and then binge for a few days on high calorie, sugary foods. An activity that I can do to help with this goal is to start a food journal.  Concerning my spiritual well being, I would rate myself at an 8 also.  I believe in God and in having a personal relationship with Him.  I attend church every Sunday and a life group on Tuesdays.  A goal that I have for my spiritual well being is to spend more alone time in prayer and meditation.  An activity that I can to help achieve this goal would be to schedule 20-30 minutes of quiet time each day. I'm more apt to do this if I set aside a specific time in my schedule.  Psychologically I would give myself an 8 also.  (Apparently, I like the number 8).  I maintain a pretty stress free environment and am not a worrier; however, I do tend to see the glass as half empty.  One goal to increase my psychological awareness is to engage in more fun activities.  Planning a family game night will help keep things light and would be quality relationship building time with my children and husband.

  1. Sarah,

family game nights can be so much fun! Which games do you guys like? We just recently started to play more games, when the girls were smaller we had to play a lot of CandyLand and Monkey's on the Bed, nowadays we are more likely to play Sorry or Jenga with my kids being 6 and 9.
It's really great that you are an avid exerciser, I am currently in a funk, there was a time in 2010/2011 when I was obsessed with working out, because I was competing in bodybuilding womens figure. Those stopped being fun though after awhile and my body felt sick and oh so tired, not even mentioning how affected I was mentally by the constant strain to lose more and more body fat while severely inhibiting my nutrition. Nowadays I am more of a leisure work-out gal, I enjoy lifting weights still, hate cardio but do it anyway, only 2-3 times however in High Intensity sessions of no more than 30 minutes. I too crave quiet time and try to get some daily, most often it is to read a book though with a yummy cup of coffee by my side, to me that counts as relaxing and self-reflective.

  2. Dunja, I'm sure you have heard of P90X. The company that puts out that program, BeachBody, also has a program called TurboFire, and I love it!! It is a combination of cardio (dance/kickboxing) but it also has days for strength and toning using resistance bands. I have never had the desire or drive to do body building, though I would like to be a bit more chiseled. My muscle definition is slightly hidden right now. :)

My girls are 9 and 7 and my son is 3. Lately they have really been into Apples to Apples Jr., Monopoly Jr., and Uno.

  3. Sarah,

Great blog post, you did a great job in describing your overall well-being and how you obtain this type of success. It seems that you have done a great job in working out five days a week, especially with your busy schedule. It is great that you find your health of great importance. I can relate with you on the diet as I will also have a few good days with the diet followed by a day or two of eating whatever I would like. Your ideas for solving that are great though and everybody deserves a cheat day here and there. Overall, you seem to be doing great and keep up the great work.
